Parliament

The UK's democracy is founded on the representation of its citizens in parliament. All adult citizens - and residents who are citizens of Ireland or the Commonwealth - are entitled to vote. (You cannot vote if you are in prison, a member of the House of Lords, have been convicted of electoral malpractice, or are judged unfit due to mental illness.)

Islington North Parliamentary constituency comprises the Northern part of the London Borough of Islington. You can see a map of the constuency on our Islington Council page.

Islington North is one of 646 constituencies which each elect a Member of Parliament (MP), and MP's then form a government. The main purpose of a political party like Labour is to get a majority of its candidates elected, so that the party can form the next government. Islington North Constituency Labour Party therefore seeks to ensure that the people of Islington North are represented by a Labour MP.

Fortunately we are represented in parliament by one of the most hard-working and popular of Labour MPs: Jeremy Corbyn.
