July 10th 2008 Islington Women’s Guide Launched At last the long-awaited Guide with everything that women in Islington need to know is ready and available! It has sections on Housing, Health, Leisure, Community Organisations, Children, Education, Employment, and much more. The formal launch took place at the Italian Advice Centre, 124 Canonbury Road, N.1. on July 10th. Councillor Catherine West, Labour Group Leader on Islington Council, said, "I am very proud that women and families are at the centre of Labour’s policy making at local and national level. In the last Council elections Labour stood on a platform of better affordable housing, improved schools, more childcare and reversing the Liberal Democrat cuts to playschemes. We have also pressed for cleaner and safer streets, with more resources for community policing, as well as better care and facilities for older people." Jennette Arnold said, "Collating this information and producing the Guide is a real achievement. All the work and fund-raising was done by a small group of Labour women, inspired by the commitment of Jeremy Corbyn’s former Agent, Carol Clinton, to whom the Guide is dedicated."
